Dillon, Colorado
Dillon, Colorado is a scenic lakeside resort community located in the heart of Colorado's
ski country. Dillon is near Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain,
and Loveland ski areas. Vail is about 35 minutes down I-70, and Beaver Creek is
about 15 minutes past Vail. Dillon is also conveniently located right off of I-70
and about 1 1/2 from Denver. With great lodging values, a beautiful location, and
so many ski resorts and mountain activities nearby, Dillon is a great place to call
home base for your vacation.
Activities and Attractions
- Skiing and Snowboarding - Dillon is located near 7 major Colorado
ski resorts!
- Dillon Reservoir - Dillon is nestled right on the reservoir, and
has a marina right in town. You can rent pontoon boats, sail boats, and runabouts
for an afternoon on beautiful Dillon Reservoir. Sailing lessons are available. Try
your luck trout fishing on the lake. The reservoir has Rainbow, Brown, and Brook
Trout.
- Camping - There are 5 campgrounds around the lake. Heaton Bay,
Peak One, Pine Cove, Lowry, and Prospector campgrounds.
- Snowmobiling - There are plenty of snowmobile outfitters in the area, so take a day off of skiing, and spend a day in the incredible Colorado backcountry.
- Mountain Biking - Dillon is on the Ten Mile Recreation Pathway.
These 50 miles of paved pathway connects Vail, Frisco, Breckenridge, and Dillon!
This winding pathway can be used by bikers, hikers, and inline skaters. Bring your
Bike, or rent one in town. Enjoy an exhilarating ride down Vail Pass, or take a
ride to Breckenridge or Frisco to grab lunch.
- Rafting - There are several rafting outfitters in the area to choose
from. Dillon is centralized to several great Colorado Rafting Rivers. You can find
trips to the Colorado, Blue, Clear Creek, and Arkansas Rivers.
- Fishing - In addition to Dillon Reservoir, Dillon sets real close
to the Blue River, which is a Gold Medal fly fishing trout stream. Guides are available
in the nearby town of Silverthorne. You can organize a float trip, or hit the river
with waiders.
- Hiking - Dillon and the entire county has hundreds of miles of
back country hiking trails. You will find trail maps at the local ranger district,
and there are many books available at local outfitter stores.
- Parks - The town park is located on the lake and features a newer
play ground and family picnic areas. There is also a amphitheater where the town
hosts frequent musical events in the summer.
